Primula clusiana

This small alpine primula has bright red-purple flowers with a white eye and notched petals held above small rosettes of glossy deep green leaves. They are found in the wild in the north-eastern Alps of Austria. Naturally found growing in limestone at a height of 1800-2500m, they will best be cultivated in the garden in troughs pots or raised beds that can imitate their natural habitat. Try adding limestone chippings to the soil.
