The drum-head Primula or drumstick Primula (also called the Lollipop primula) produces a wonderful display in the garden and is one of the most common primulas from the Himalayas. It is easy to grow on most garden soils and will form large plants with lots of flower stems as long as it gets enough moisture and humus. They are easy to divide and will self-sow when grown in groups but the colours of the offspring are usually duller than good parent colours. After flowering, the leaves become quite large, so make sure to allow enough space to avoid swamping more delicate plants.
Dies back to a resting bud in the winter. Watch out for slugs that may eat the centre bud during the winter.
