Primula matthioli

This pretty plant used to be known as Cortusa matthioli but new genetic research has placed it firmly in the genus Primula. Belonging to the Cortusoides section, it has interestingly shaped leaves with delicate bell-shaped pink flowers that dangle above the the leaves. It is found in many places in the wild from central Europe all the way to Japan. It grows in forests, streamsides and woodland margins and will thrive in a damp, shady spot in the garden.
