GOLD LACED POLYANTHUS 'Beeches Strain'
- Product Code: 550
Primula Barnhaven Gold Laced Group
Barnhaven’s famous strain of this precious little flower and is the result of many years of extremely selective breeding to the standards set out by the florists in the 17th century. It was first introduced to the Barnhaven catalogue in 1948 and comes from an English strain that was rescued from the UK during the second world war.
Although the flowers have the usual 5 or 6 petals of the common primrose flower, the gold edging makes it appear as though it has twice as many. The flowers usually have darker backgrounds than the Beeches strain, (from dark red, brown to black) with round yellow centres and a gold edging though you may find a few silver edges in the mix. No harder to grow than the other polyanthus primroses, though they do respond well to a little extra feeding.
